A local name, on the line, every job.
Piñon Painting & Fine Finishes has been owner-operated out of Arroyo Grande for 20 years. Small enough that you deal with the owner, established enough that you can look up our record.

Respectful, honest, and on time, in that order.
Augustus “Gus” Piñon has been painting Central Coast homes since 2006. The company is family owned, based on Ivan Road in Arroyo Grande, and small on purpose. We take the number of jobs we can personally stand behind rather than the number that would make us the biggest name on the coast.
What that buys you is simple. The person who writes your estimate is the person who works your job. If something is not right at the walkthrough, you say it to the owner, not a coordinator. And if you call us two years from now about a spot on a fascia board, the phone still gets answered by the same company.
We are not the cheapest bid you will get, and we do not try to be. Most of what separates a seven-year exterior from a three-year one is labor nobody can see once the job is done. That is where our money goes, and the estimate shows you exactly where.
Do not take our word for any of this.
Every claim on this page is verifiable, and you should verify it, for us and for every other contractor you are considering.

Licensed and open
Augustus “Gus” Piñon takes out California contractor license #976750 and starts working the Five Cities.
- Then
Fine finishes take hold
Venetian plaster, limewash and hand-glazed work become the specialty other local crews refer out.
- Now
A full finishing crew
Interiors, exteriors, cabinets, washing and light carpentry: everything a repaint actually needs, under one license.
- Always
Still the same phone
Call and you get the company, not a call center. Gus still walks the estimates himself.
Our four commitments, in plain English.
A written estimate, itemized
You see the prep, the products, the coats and the timeline before you agree to anything. No verbal ballparks that grow later.
Gus is on your job
The owner walks the site, writes the estimate and works the job. You are not handed off to a sales rep and a crew you never met.
Licensed and insured, verifiably
CSLB License #976750, active since 2006, with full liability and workers' comp. Look it up before you hire anyone, including us.
We leave it cleaner than we found it
Furniture covered, floors protected, hardware bagged and labeled, jobsite swept at the end of every day the crew is on site.
Customers on the Central Coast

“Piñon Painting has been a great company to work with: professional, communicative and genuinely easy to deal with from the estimate through the final walkthrough.”
“I called and they were able to come within the hour. Responsive when I needed someone quickly, and the work held up.”
About the company
Are you a franchise?
No. Piñon Painting is independently owned and operated out of Arroyo Grande. There is no regional office, no franchise fee baked into your estimate, and no corporate script.
Do you use employees or subcontractors?
The painting is done by our own crew, working under our license and our insurance. On the rare occasion a job needs a licensed specialist outside our scope, we tell you who they are before they set foot on your property.
How do I verify your license and insurance?
Search license #976750 at cslb.ca.gov. It shows status, classification, bond and workers' compensation. We are also happy to send a current certificate of insurance naming you before work begins. Ask every contractor you are considering for the same thing.
What is a fine finish, and why is it in the name?
Decorative work, meaning Venetian plaster, limewash, glazing, distressed and antiqued wood, is a separate craft from production painting. It is hand-applied in layers and it is what Gus built the reputation on, so it stayed in the name.
