Refund & Cancellation Policy
Estimates are free. Deposits are limited by California law. And if we get something wrong, the first remedy is that we come back and fix it.
Effective September 9, 2026 · Piñon Painting & Fine Finishes · CSLB #976750
1. Scope
This policy explains deposits, cancellations, change orders and refunds for residential painting and finishing services provided by Piñon Painting & Fine Finishes, CSLB #976750. It works alongside your signed written contract and our Terms of Service. Where this policy and your signed contract differ, the signed contract controls.
2. Estimates cost nothing
Walkthroughs and written estimates within our service area are free. No deposit is required to schedule an estimate, and declining an estimate costs you nothing.
3. Your three-day right to cancel
Under California law, for most home improvement contracts signed at your residence you have the right to cancel the contract until midnight of the third business day after you sign it, and five business days if you are 65 or older. Your contract includes a written Notice of Cancellation form explaining this right.
To cancel within that period:
- Sign, date and deliver the Notice of Cancellation included with your contract; or
- Send us any other written notice of cancellation by mail, email or hand delivery within the cancellation period.
If you cancel within that window, any deposit you paid is returned in full within 10 days, and you owe us nothing.
4. Deposits
California limits down payments on home improvement contracts to $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less. We never ask for more than that, and we never ask for payment in full up front. If a contractor asks you for a large advance payment, that is worth questioning.
Any payments beyond the deposit are progress payments tied to work actually completed and materials actually delivered, as itemized in your contract. We do not bill ahead of the work.
5. Cancelling after the three-day period
If you cancel after the statutory cancellation period but before work begins:
- Your deposit is refunded, less any documented costs we have already incurred on your behalf: for example, custom-tinted paint, ordered materials or special-order trim that cannot be returned.
- We will provide receipts for any deducted costs. We do not charge a cancellation fee beyond actual documented costs.
If you cancel after work has begun:
- You are responsible for the value of labor performed and materials supplied to that point, plus any non-returnable materials already purchased for your job.
- Any remaining balance from your deposit or progress payments is refunded within 10 business days of a final accounting, which we will provide in writing.
6. If we cancel or cannot complete the work
If we are unable to perform the contracted work for any reason within our control, we will refund 100% of amounts you have paid for work not performed, with no deduction and no restocking charge, within 10 business days.
7. Rescheduling for weather
Exterior work is weather-dependent, and we will not apply coatings outside the manufacturer’s specified conditions. Weather rescheduling is not a cancellation by either party and carries no fee. If repeated weather delays make the timing unworkable for you, we will discuss cancelling with no penalty beyond documented costs.
8. Change orders
Additional or altered work is documented in a written change order describing the work and the price, and signed before that work proceeds. Change orders are billed on completion of the changed work. Nothing extra is ever added to your invoice without your prior written approval.
9. If you are not satisfied
Our first remedy is correction, not argument. If something in our workmanship is not right, tell us, during the final walkthrough or afterward, and we will return and correct qualifying workmanship issues at no charge to you. Please contact us at (805) 234-0762 or info@pinonpaintingag.com as soon as you notice a concern, so we can look at it while the cause is still clear.
Refunds for completed work are considered case by case where correction is not a practical remedy, and are handled in accordance with your written contract and California law. Warranty terms, duration and exclusions specific to your project are stated in that contract.
10. What is not refundable
- Work already completed to the specifications in your signed contract and accepted at walkthrough.
- Custom-tinted or special-order materials that cannot be returned, once purchased for your job.
- Repainting resulting from a change of mind about color or sheen after approval, which is handled as a change order.
- Damage caused by conditions outside our control or outside our scope: water intrusion, structural movement, roof or gutter failure, physical damage or deferred maintenance.
11. How refunds are issued
Refunds are issued using the original payment method wherever possible, or by check if not, and are processed within 10 business days of the refund being agreed or a final accounting being provided.
12. Unresolved disputes
Please contact us directly first. Most concerns are resolved with a phone call and a return visit. If a dispute cannot be resolved between us, California homeowners may contact the Contractors State License Board, which regulates licensed contractors and accepts consumer complaints, at cslb.ca.gov.
